What's Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

Question: Once again there's debate over the ban on nativity scenes in public school classrooms, while it is permissible to show symbols designated as non-religious, such as christmas trees, the islamic star, crescent and chanukah menorahs. Briefly, what do you think?

"The thing is, what's the purpose of having symbols of Christmas but not actually the nativity scene? You'll be talking about Jesus and the Wise Men anyway." - Herbert Antley, Canarsie
"Everybody should have their own symbol. They shouldn't just have the nativity scene. There should be something for everybody - to have their own." - Rose Brown, Canarsie
"My honest opinion is they should just represent all holidays in a non-religious way - not just have the nativity scene. Schools are made up of many different types of people who have many different types of religious roots." - Carlos Pacheco, Canarsie
"If you are teaching the children, giving them knowledge - give them the complete knowledge with exposure to all different types of religions. Don't just have the nativity scene - and all that represents." - Joann Gordon, Canarsie
