On The Sixth Night Of Chanukah...
By Neil S. Friedman

(Clockwise from top left)Dan, Beth, Arielle and Benny Teitelbaum hosted Monday's Chanukah ceremony; Rabbis Halpern and Perlson light the menorah on the lawn of the Teitelbaum home; everyone in attendance sang a holiday favorite, "IHave ADreidel"; Temple Sholom's Cantor Steve Shor and Rabbi Weintraub supervise children from the synagogue.
Standing out amidst houses decorated with colorful holiday lights and adorned with various Christmas decorations, is one Mill Basin home that celebrates Chanukah, the Jewish Festival of Lights, that, like the Christian celebration, traditionally falls every December.

On Monday night, the sixth of eight nights of the Hebrew holiday, the Teitelbaum family held the largest Chanukah celebration that began four years ago at their home on Avenue T off Mill Avenue. This year the home was proclaimed Brooklyn's official "Chanukah House" by Borough President Marty Markowitz. Dan and Beth Teitelbaum, along with their children Arielle, 13, and Benny, 6, hosted the event that attracted scores of local residents - Jews as well as Christians - to watch two local rabbis light an electric menorah (candelabra) on the front lawn and hear songs performed by students from nearby Temple Sholom.

As they have done every year since the tradition began following an inquiry by their daughter, the Teitelbaum's display had some new elements this year that complimented older ornaments, such as oversized dreidels (spinning tops), including one that rotates, and several small menorahs.
