By Charles Rogers

One man was seriously wounded and three of his friends escaped being shot early last Friday when a lone assailant came up to their car, quickly fired four shots into it and fled on foot, police said.

Officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad said the incident happened shortly after midnight on Nov-ember 23 when four friends who had just departed a Thanksgiving party on East 103rd Street near Avenue L and were sitting in a car belonging to one of them while the car warmed up when a lone man came to the passenger side and struck up a conversation which apparently turned into an argument.

Police said the victim told them the man suddenly pulled a black handgun from his belt and fired four shots into the car. The driver was struck in the lower back, right arm and his neck was grazed by a bullet. After he fired the last shot, the gunman fled on foot. The three passengers also fled the other way, leaving the wounded man in the car.

Neighbors who heard the shots call-ed 911 and police arrived along with Emergency Medical Service parame-dics, who took the victim to Brookdale Hospital. Hospital personnel later told police that the victim's wounds were not life threatening. Police did not release the names of the victim and his passengers.

Detectives said there were no shells found at the scene and doctors in the hospital said one round was still lodged in the victim's back.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
