Question of the Week
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

Question: A Brooklyn city councilman wants to eliminate the city's pigeon population. He plans to begin by fining New Yorkers for feeding pigeons and to create a "pigeon czar" to be held accountable for all pigeon-related complaints. Do you agree or disagree with this proposal? Why?

"I agree with it. You go under a train track or store awning and you get struck by droppings from a pigeon. It's out of control. I don't know if New York needs a pigeon czar, but (they) definitely have to prevent people from feeding them - dumping plenty of bread and rice for pigeons. That also draws rodents." -- Billy Adrian, Midwood
"I go to Central Park and feed the pigeons. It's part of life to enjoy your surroundings. And remember, the pigeons were here before all this modern technology took over. Let the pigeons stay!" - David Blackwood, Canarsie
"I agree. Because when you feed the pigeons, you also feed the rats. Pigeons are a nuisance because their droppings are toxic." - Joan Boreland, Canarsie
"I don't think there should be a ban on feeding pigeons. People go to the park and feed the pigeons. There's nothing wrong with that." -Robert Gonzales, Canarsie
