Report Shows Decline In Americans' Health

New York is ranked 26th, behind Connecticut (#5) and New Jersey (#21), according to the 18th annual America's Health Rankings report released Monday by the United Health Foundation, the American Public Health Association, and the Partnership for Prevention, which also noted that the overall health of Americans declined by 0.3 percent over the past year, even though progress has been made in several key health indicators.

Vermont came out on top, but nine of the bottom ten states are in the South.

Listed below in descending order are how the states ranked in the report. The score represents the percentage the state is either above or below the national average.

A state's health is determined on 20 key measures of wellness, such as rates of obesity, infant mortality, cancer deaths and high school graduation.
