A "Shining Star" Among Us
Congratulations to Josefina Nover, center, flanked by Brooklyn-Queens Most Rev. Bishop Nich-olas DiMarzio and former Can-arsie Assemblyman and former Surrogate Court Judge Frank Seddio, on being a recipient of the coveted 2007 Shining Star Award at a dinner on October 19. The honor was presented by the Brooklyn Diocese Catholic Mig-ration Office, which honors very special immigrants. Josefina - everybody calls her "Josie" - is a member of the Canarsie Lions Club and a parishioner at Our Lady of Miracles, where she is an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, catechist in Relig-ious Formation, Pastoral Council member and a member of the Holy Rosary Society. To top all that, she is chairperson of the Development Committee Board of Canarsie's Our Lady of Trust School and coordinator of the Filipino-American parish community. Officials of the Shining Star Award committee said she has been "instrumental in revitalizing the Filipino community in Brookl-yn." Josie is a real estate agent with Community Home Sales in Canarsie.
