Ganging Up On Graffiti

Over the weekend Auxiliary officers with the 69th Precinct and youths from the Explorers group cleaned up graffiti at 25 locations throughout Canarsie. The graffiti cleanup is an annual event which encourages children in the community to help take care of their neighborhood. A total of ten youths participated in this year's event. Police Officer Valerie Wilson, Lt. Clint McPherson and Sgt. Newell Laird spearheaded the project. Wilson said many of the chidren enjoyed the task and said, "They loved it. We want them to know graffiti is not acceptable. This is the community they live in and they need to keep it clean. We also informed them that if they see someone writing graffiti, call 9-1-1 and report it immediately." (Above) Youths make the building at East 98th Street and Avenue M look brand new. Dara Mormile
