Student Stabbed In Melee Outside Canarsie High School A Canarsie High School student on his way to school Friday morning was stabbed as he watched what appeared to be a melee between a group of other youths and some friends of his, police reported. NYPD spokesman Detective Joe Cavitolo said the youth, whose name was not released, was walking south on Rockaway Parkway at about 8:40 a.m. on October 12 when the fight broke out at the corner of Avenue J, adjacent to the school. The victim said that, although he was not doing any fighting, one of the girls involved in the fight slammed him in the face as the fight continued. The fight lasted a few minutes more and then broke up, the boy told police. It was at this time he noticed he was bleeding and a friend took him home. When his mother saw he was bleeding, she took him to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated for "superficial" wounds, Detective Cavitolo said. The youth was listed in stable condition. The teenage victim said he wasn't sure how he received the wounds, except that it might have been when the girl punched him in the face, noting that he thought she had something in her hand - "maybe a pen," he said. Anyone with more information should contact the local precinct at (718) 257-6215. All calls will be confidential.
