Mill Basin Man Killed While Loading His Car

Victim was loading groceries into his car, which was parked on the East 66th Street side of Key Food Shopping Center, when he was struck and killed, allegedly by out-of-control van.

A Mill Basin resident who was loading his car with groceries, and other items preparatory to going on a boat trip with his family, was killed Sunday when an out of control van struck him, crushing him against the back of his car, police sources said.

Witnesses said David Sagiv, 40, was parked on East 66th Street on the side of the Key Food Shopping Center near Avenue U and adjacent to the Bay End Marina when the accident occurred. His wife and three children were standing nearby while he loaded the car. Witnesses said the family saw the accident happen.

A man in his 20s was driving the van, sources said.

Both men were taken to Kings County Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics and Sagiv was pronounced dead. The driver of the van was listed in critical condition, according to published reports, although the extent of his injuries was not released. He was not charged in the case.
