Starrett City Residents Rally

Hundreds of Starrett City residents (top) joined tenant advocates and others at a rally at the Christian Cultural Center on Flatlands Avenue last week to protest the owners' intention to opt out of the federally-subsidized Mitchell Lama program and demanded they negotiate a plan to avoid radical rent hikes. As a few residents look on, City Councilman Charles Barron (bottom)demonstrated his support by signing principles to keep affordable rents for the development's 6,000 apartments.
