Police Say Attempted Robbery Suspect Shot Himself The 21-year-old man who told police from a hospital bed that he had been shot in the foot during a robbery attempt on September 1, allegedly lied to cops. He shot himself after all, detectives from the 69th Precinct said. Michael Saintuname of East 82nd Street said he was in front of his house at about 5 p.m. when a man asked him what time it was. When he looked at his watch, the man pulled out a gun and held him up. The pair struggled and the gun went off, with Saintuname being struck in the foot. The alleged attacker then fled, he said. Wrong! Detectives said they were "a little wary" about Saintuname's story, but decided to take it on face value. Later, however, after he had been questioned further, he admitted that the gun fired by mistake while he was putting it in his belt at home. Saintuname was arrested and charged with giving a false report and criminal possession of a weapon.
