Cops Arrest Man In His "30s Or 40s" In The Rape Of Canarsie 16-Year-Old

Police this week captured a suspect in the rape of a 16-year-old girl, accord-ing to police sources.

Although details are sketchy be-cause Special Victims Unit detectives are still questioning the man, said to be in his "30s or 40s," sources said the man was arrested near East 88th Street in Canarsie early Monday as he walk-ed away from the home of the teen-ager.

Sources said the girl reported the incident shortly after midnight on Sunday, August 26, noting that she said she fell asleep on a couch and was awakened "with the man on top of me," according to reports. At that point, the man said, "If you tell anyone, I'll shoot you," and then used physical force to hold her down. When she fought him back, he eventually released her and she ran out of the house.

The man then fled in an unknown direction in his late-model SUV. De-tectives discovered his address and picked him up the following day. Charles Rogers
