Two thieves, one wielding a hand-gun, last Sunday afternoon burst into the Dunkin' Donuts Restaurant at 2092 Rockaway Parkway and robbed the store of more than $500, police said. No one was hurt.
Officials from the 69th Precinct said officers checking out the area in a patrol car were informed at about 3:45 p.m. that "an armed man and an accomplice" had just robbed the store and arrived on the scene within minutes. They canvassed the area but the thieves escaped.
Police sources said the store was empty of customers when the pair entered and one of them pulled out a black handgun, pointed it at a counterman and told him to open two re-gisters behind the counter. The worker obliged and the gunman reached over and grabbed approximately $500 in cash from the registers. He calmly looked around and then both men "casually" walked out of the store, the worker told police.
Both men were seen walking across the shopping center and then north on Rockaway Parkway. It is not clear if they fled in a vehicle or on foot.
Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the 69th Pre-cinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
