17-Year-Old Bike Rider Caught With .44 Magnum

Police from the 69th Precinct last week arrested a 17-year-old boy and charged him with criminal possession of a weapon after stopping him and a friend while they were riding their bicycles on Flatlands Avenue.

Two officers who were patrolling the area at about 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 17 said they saw the boys, both 17 years old, riding their bikes on the wrong side of the road. They started to warn them when one of the boys started to drive away while they were being questioned. The patrol car caught up to him at East 103rd Street and, while the youth was being questioned by one of the officers, it appeared he was trying hide something, police sources said.

Further investigation determined he allegedly had a loaded .44 magnum automatic in his belt. He was arrested on the spot and taken to the precinct station house on Foster Avenue.

The other youth was not charged. Police did not release the name of either youth.
