As children stood in line for snow cones and played Frisbee near a cool spray from a fire hydrant, the 69th Precinct Community Council prepared for the Night Out Against Crime. The 24th annual event, which took place nationwide Tuesday evening, encourages residents to join their local precinct and strengthen the community by walking through local streets.

A highlight of the two-hour event included the presentation of a citation sent to the council by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who visited several Brooklyn communities where police officers, who died in the line of duty, served.

This year the council, along with precinct officers and officials, walked from outside the Foster Avenue stationhouse at Rockaway Parkway to Farragut Road, up East 92nd Street, east along Foster Road and then returned to Rockaway Parkway for free food, drinks and music.

A variety of community services, such as various health providers and representatives from the District Attorney's office, were also available.
