"Noise" Complaint Answered

Dear Editor:

This is in response to the complaint made by a "disgruntled resident" in last week's Courier (Letters to the Editor, 8/2/07).

The BayView Houses Residents' Association for the past three years has provided the community with outdoor summer concerts. The NYCHA Senior Choir gave a magnificent concert and received accolades again and again.

As for the letter-writer's complaint regarding loud music from various apartments, defecating and urinating in the elevators, fornicating in the hallways and staircases and selling illegal substances, the writer should have alerted management and the Police Department.

He or she should also have come to our monthly general meetings and filed a complaint with the Grievance Committee for their intervention.

Editor's note: Members of the Residents Association are proud of the fact that they host the concerts. And we're proud of them for doing so. Too often there are people who will complain that there are not enough "nice" things happening in the community, and this is surely one. The Tenants Association's Grievance Committee works very well because of their association with local enforcement authorities. Incidentally, there will be another concert - this time by the famous Approaching Storm Marching Band - on Tuesday, August 14 at 7 p.m. Same time; same place. If you don't like the concert, close your window!
