Too Many Mammography Centers Closing, Says Congressman
Rep. Anthony Weiner, left, joined by Brooklyn Deputy Borough President Yvonne Graham and physicians from Beth Israel Medical Center and other health care professionals, released a new study showing that the city has 26 percent fewer mammography clinics since 1999, a loss of 67 clinics. The study shows that women must now wait an average of eight weeks for an appointment in Brooklyn. Weiner announced legislation to increase the Medicare reimbursement rate to help keep these facilities open and increase access to these life saving exams.
