What's Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

question: In another move to make roads safer, an Albany legislator has proposed an amendment to the bill prohibiting talking on hand-held cell phones that would also make it illegal to type, send or read text messages while driving. Do you agree or disagree with this idea? Why?

"I agree. Should make it illegal. Accidents are caused by using a cell phone and text messaging while driving. I wouldn't want to be in a car when the driver is using a cell phone." - Michele Jacobs, Starrett City
"I agree. It should be banned. It's not the best thing to drive and text message. It's unsafe to drive. You can get in an accident. That's the whole point of the law." - Nicholas Ahmad, Canarsie
"I agree. Using cell phones in cars is dangerous - and sending and receiving text messages would be even more dangerous. I've seen accidents caused by just that type of thing. An accident happens in a split second. You have to be paying attention to the road." - Herbert Smith, Canarsie
"They should absolutely make it illegal. It'll save lives. It'll prevent accidents. Make the world safer. We always get distracted driving - watching out for the other drivers. Text messaging would make it even more impractical." - Katia Black, Canarsie
