Captain Ralph Monteforte, commanding officer of the 69th Precinct, honored several outstanding officers at last month's Community Council meeting.

On June 8, Police Officer Charlene Hernandez and Sergeant Sergio Centa responded to a gunpoint robbery in progress at East 89th Street and Flatlands Avenue.

Precinct officials said the victim was approached from behind by three perpetrators who grabbed her hair and robbed her at gunpoint. During a canvass of the area, the suspects were identified and arrested by the two officers and a firearm was recovered.

Detective Emmanuel Katranakis was awarded for apprehending a suspect who allegedly shot and killed someone he was arguing with. According to precinct reports, the suspect fled in a white Acura. Katranakis' investigation helped lead to the suspects arrest a few days later.

During the meeting, which took place at St. Alban's Church, Monteforte also awarded several auxiliary police officers for volunteering their time to protect and serve Canarsie.
