P.S. 114 Students Express Gratitude For Courier's Help On Centennial Project
While I knew little about the school's history, I was happy to assist and provide any information I could. I invited Rowe and a handful of students to our office to look through the Canarsie Courier's bound archives for any information about the school over the last 40 or so years. I also decided to write an article about the project, as well as the school's centennial. I looked through various copies of old Courier editions and found accounts of students' lives as experienced by the late historian John Denton, who had written a series of columns called "Little Old Canarsie" that are still published regularly. Upon further research, I came across articles on changes at the school over the years, including a new addition and other milestones over decades. I shared this information with the students and they were grateful. I also visited the students and asked them to compare their lives with those of students a century ago.
