PAL Kicks Off Summer Play Street Program

The Police Athletic League (PAL) has launched its 2007 Summer Program in Brooklyn. City youngsters play traditional sidewalk games, develop their creativity through the arts, and learn from a variety of visiting education, recreation and cultural arts specialists.

PAL's Summer Play Street Program closes off streets and utilizes other public areas, such as playgrounds and parks, throughout New York City to provide children with safe, supervised places to enjoy outdoor summer activities. Play Streets offer sports, arts and crafts, games, music and dance.

Featured activities include Double Dutch jump rope, Hopscotch, Nok Hockey, and basketball. PAL is operating throughout the five boroughs this summer, including 110 Play Streets, 15 day camps and 250 co-ed T-ball, Rookie League baseball, and Cops & Kids softball teams.

Play Streets are open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., from July 2 through August 17, and is free to all children.

Following is a list of local Play Streets:

+ Canarsie Park Playground: Seaview Ave-nue (East 92nd, East 88th Streets).
