Pct. C.O.: "We're Watching For Illegal Fireworks On The 4th"
By Dara Mormile

In order to prepare the community for the Fourth Of July, 69th Precinct Commanding Officer Captain Ralph Monteforte raised the public's awareness about illegal fireworks during this week's Community Council meeting.

Monteforte provided an NYPD Fourth of July initiative, including a report from 10 years ago when 8300 fireworks-related injuries were reported - of which 3800 were children.

Captain Monteforte also presented graphic photos of injuries that resulted from handling fireworks, including a photo of a boys' hand that was blown off.

"More cops will be patrolling that night to find anyone using illegal fireworks," Monteforte said. "If we catch you with illegal fireworks, we'll issue you a summons or arrest you - depending on the situation. The precinct needs the community's help. If you see anyone in possession of illegal fireworks, call 911."
