Fire Hits Day Care Center

Multiple fire companies responded yesterday morning to a fire in the day care center at the corner of East 89th Street and Glenwood Road. According to FDNY officials, a small blaze erupted in the kitchen of the facility, which was evacuated without incident. Deputy Fire Chief John Hodgens said there were no injuries from the fire itself, which was put out within just a few minutes, but one firefighter was struck by a car as he was getting out of his rig. Emergency Medical Technicians said he was treated at the scene. Charles Rogers
