Victim Of Robbery Shot In Ankle; But Bullet Lodges In His Wallet A 19-year-old resident of Union-dale, Long Island who was walking to the Rockaway Parkway subway station Saturday at about 7:45 a.m. was accosted at the corner of East 101st Street and Avenue J by a lone bandit who tried to rob him at gunpoint and shot him in the ankle when he ran. Police are looking for the shooter, who fled immediately after the shooting. Police from the 69th Precinct said the young man, whose name was not released, had been visiting a friend on Avenue J and was on his way home when, as he got to the corner, he was confronted by a man who pulled out a gun and told the victim to give him his money and the gold chain around his neck. The victim refused and then be-gan to run north on East 101st Street when the man who accosted him shot him once and then ran. The 19-year-old fell to the ground and neigh-bors, hearing the shot, called 911 and ran to assist the wounded man. Emer-gency Medical Service paramedics took him to Brookdale Hospital, where he was treated and released. Detectives said they retrieved the bullet that wounded the victim be-cause it apparently entered the left side of his ankle, came out the other side and, because he was falling, somehow lodged inside his wallet, which was in his back pocket. Later, police said they recovered a shell casing from a .45 automatic. Charles Rogers
