Meager Turn Out For Local Memorial Day Parade

Mary Salogub, Carlton Richardson and Sonia Salogub place wreath at Veteran's Circle.
The annual local Memorial Day parade seems to attract fewer participants each year and Monday's appeared to be the smallest turnout in recent memory.

Nevertheless, the few dozen who attended paid a sincere tribute to those who sacrificed their lives in the nation's wars. There was also a brief, but poignant, ceremony at the Veteran's Circle near Canarsie Pier.

Recorded patriotic music blared from a sound truck as the parade meandered through the community. Among the marchers were the 69th Precinct Explorers, members of the 69th Pct. Auxiliary Police, firefighters and two rigs from the Rockaway Parkway firehouse, a group of the local masons lodge and a few area residents. Photos by Sonny Maxon
