"Big Band" Sound Hails Nursing Home Week At River Manor

These two jitterbuggers took full advantage of the afternoon's music session.
In celebration of the 40th anniversary of New York State Nursing Home Week, residents and attendees at River Manor Care Center pulled out all the stops and hosted a giant "Big Band" party recently.

With a keyboard and two live saxophones, plus plenty of electronic gadgets to give that full orchestra volume, the dulcet tones of Tommy Dorsey's "Moonlight Serenade" could be danced to - unless Woody Herman's Third Herd thundered, so jitterbugs could do their thing.

Officials said Nursing Home Week honors all residents and nursing home workers who make quality care possible and cited some of the accomplishments of nursing homes lately.

Facilities like River Manor enable residents "to spend less time in the nursing home and more time with their families," according to Nancy Leveille, of the State Health Facilities Association.
