BP Looking For Good, Young Writers Borough President Marty Markowitz invites Brooklynites ages 14-19 to submit stories, poems, essays, spoken word, and raps for the Second Annual "Lit Match" teen writing contest. The theme of this year's contest is "Brooklyn Underground," and all tales from the borough's underground are welcome. Contestants are encouraged to write about something that happened on a subway train or platform or what they imagine might be down there or even about something that isn't literally "underground," but that exists below the surface of everyday life in Brooklyn. A committee of publishers, editors, and literary agents will select 15 finalists, who will be invited to read their submissions at the second annual Brooklyn Book Festival on September 16, 2007. The first place winner will receive a laptop computer. All finalists will have their work professionally edited and published in an anthology to be released by an Brooklyn independent publisher. Entries are due by June 9th and may be typed or handwritten, and should not exceed 2,500 words. with a cover sheet including name, address, age, telephone number, and school. Entrant must be a Brooklyn resident. Entries may be sent to Brooklyn Underground, c/o Brooklyn Borough Hall, 209 Joralemon Street, Brooklyn, NY 11201. There is no fee to enter.
