Man Shot In Face Two Weeks Ago Dies In Hospital: Police
By Charles Rogers

The man who was shot in the face by an unknown assailant two weeks ago died eight days after being taken to the hospital, police said.

Identified as Joseph Hinds, 44, of 919 East 105th Street, the victim suffered from a gunshot wound to the head and another to the face at about 10:30 p.m. on May 2 as he stood in his front yard.

Sources said he had been arguing with another man, who suddenly whip-ped out a handgun and shot Hinds point blank and then ran in an un-known direction. The victim was able to stagger to the Flatlands Mini-Market at the corner of East 105th Street and Flatlands Avenue before collapsing. Police from the 69th Pre-cinct, who were on their way to the scene because neighbors had called to report there had been "shots fired" in the area, saw Hinds and decided he was bleeding too much to wait for paramedics. They carried the victim to their car and took him to the hospital.

Local detectives investigating the case have asked for the public's help and ask that anyone who has information please contact them at (718) 257-6215. They may also call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept strictly confidential.
