Question: A Pennsylvania Congressman said he is going to introduce legislation that will allow designated officials to examine the medical records of possible mentally troubled individuals. Do you think it is an intrusion into private medical records or acceptable in light of what occurred at Virginia Tech? Why?
 | | "Basically, it is invasion of their privacy. I don't think there should be legislation about that. There are millions of people with mental illness. So you can't check all the records."
- Fred Allman, Canarsie

 | | "It definitely would be an intrusion. We do have laws protecting peoples' rights. But in this type of situation - and future cases - second opinions are definitely invaluable."
- Liz Espinal, Canarsie

 | | "No, I don't think it's an intrusion into private records. Some people need the help. If they've been diagnosed, they need to intervene. Otherwise, things like what happened at Virginia Tech will happen again. I have six children - I want my children protected. What were the guidance counselors at Virginia Tech doing? They should have been watching out for things like that."

 | | "Some people don't want to share that type of information even with their own families. But what happened at Virginia Tech is a very serious matter. Medical authorities should keep those records in confidence with school authorities."
