Letters To The Editor
Thanks For Free Tix

Dear Canarsie Courier,

I would like to thank you for the tickets I won to the show at Radio City Music Hall recently. My grandchildren are still thanking me. We all really enjoyed the show!

Thanks again.

A Bunch Of Questions

Editor's Note: A copy of the following letter was sent to the Canarsie Courier for publication:

Ms. Dorothy Turano, District Manager

Community Board 18

Dear Ms. Turano:

I am compelled by irate callers to ask: Who can answer these questions regarding who is responsible for coming to Canarsie's aid? Where are our elected officials regarding Waldbaum's Avenue M Rockaway Parkway closed store? They were there when Nostrand Avenue store closed and had it reopened. Irate callers question who is responsible for plans regarding Avenue D/Foster Avenue choice of Home Depot? Is this an Urban Action Plan?

Economic Action Plan will lead to demise of: G & M Home Center, 9105 Avenue L; Marino Hardware, 1369 Rockaway Parkway; S and S Hardware 8107 Flatlands; Cerverizzo Fences 9502 Flatlands Avenue; Awning City Windows and Doors 9623 Avenue L; Benardo's Plumbing Supplies 9612 Avenue L; Big John's 9503 Avenue L. What happened to promised economic development of Avenue L? There are nine closed stores on Avenue L and ten churches on Avenue L - this needs to be addressed. Not counting three adjacent stores closed; Canarsie Theater is still under construction on East 93rd and Avenue L.

Canarsiens walk to stores and need Avenue M site opened now. Adjacent businesses are losing business. 24 hour food stores overcharge, with outdated food on shelves, do not put air conditions on, are old, not modern, clean facilities.

Our Wildlife in Canarsie's Seaview Park are in our backyards. Oppossums, herons, racoons, hawks, falcons etc. Other wildlife and park natural vegetation are gone. Where are animals, butterflies to go to live?

Incomplete CSO delayed causing ponding, flooding compounded with infill overdevelopment not allowing absorption but runoff to overflowing catch basins, and non existing ones.

Promised trees, sidewalk repairs incomplete. Re-construction, W.108th St. Fresh Creek Park Street and fencing, catch basins installations Ave J and E.102 - 108 need to be completed NOW.

Downzoning cannot wait 2 years. completion asked 10/04. It's time.

A 3/16/07 letter from you: "It is imperative that the entire community be energized and made cognizant of that process and its significance." Re: Rezoning and time frame for its completion.

What kind of an answer is this? Who can answer it before Canarsie becomes a Ghost Town? Unoccupied new developments, closed stable stores, sewers, capital for Brooklyn's Bergen Beach Million Dollar Homes and all homes from Prospect Park to Flatlands Ave Ralph Ave Ralph Ave CSO functions by gravity?

Thank you for your immediate cooperation.

Sincerely

Mary Anne Sallustro
