QUESTION: There are plans to convert grass fields in city parks to artificial turf in the near future. However, some argue that the artificial turf is harder on human bodies than regular grass and therefore might not be safe. What do you think?

"Everybody knows that artificial turf does not give. In football, artificial turf is harder on your knees. The only benefit is that you don't have to cut it regularly. Maintenance is good. But as far as playing on it, give me real grass any day." - David Fleetwood, Canarsie
"I think they should leave it as it is. It's really not safe to have the artificial surface. If you want a ballfield, make a ballfield. If it's a park, leave it as a park. Can't combine the two." - Daphnee Jeanshakeleton, Canarsie
"In my opinion, the parks are for children and the people of the community to enjoy the outdoors and recreational activities. How are we supposed to enjoy it when everything is in concrete or artificial turf? Leave the grass for greenery in our neighborhood." -Reniya Johnson, Canarsie
"Yes, it is harder. I used to play football. I banged up my knee because of artificial turf. You watch television - more players get hurt on artificial turf. Maybe it's cost effective - you save a few dollars with artificial turf. But more players get hurt." - Jose Velez, Canarsie
