Indictment In Jet Ski
Manslaughter Makes History: District Attorney The manslaughter indictment of Aristotle Plagianakos in the jet-ski death of fellow Mill Basin resident Paul Zaccaria marks the first time someone has ever been indicted in New York City for manslaughter re-lating to a reckless boating incident. According to Kings County Dis-trict Attorney Charles J. Hynes, the 17-year-old suspect is also facing charges with criminally negligent homicide, reckless endangerment and "several naval law violations related to reckless operation of a vessel," Hynes said in an announcement shortly after the defendant was arraigned. The indictment states: "On June 30, 2006, Plagianakos was riding his personalized watercraft vehicle - a jet ski - with a passenger in the Mill Basin inlet. They were traveling at a high speed when they struck Zaccaria's jet ski, knocking him from the craft and killing him. Plagianakos and his passenger fled. Zaccaria's body was not found until August 6 on the bank of the Mill Basin inlet not far from Kings Plaza." Sources said the suspect could receive a sentence of 15 years on the manslaughter charge alone. He was ordered held on $50,000 bail. | |||||
