Alleged DWI Suspect Charged With Attempted Bribery A Canarsie resident was charged last week for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and compounded the offense by allegedly trying to bribe the officer who arrested him, police said. According to a report filed at the 69th Precinct, Police officers Sharlene Kennedy and Ryan Thomas responded to a call that a man was slumped over the steering wheel of a car on East 98th Street at about 3 a.m. on April 14 and discovered Phillip Williams, 41, of East 89th Street, apparently passed out in his 1999 Mercedes. They roused him, placed him under arrest, charging him with DWI, and proceeded to the 78th Precinct, Downtown, where testing is done on various offenses needing laboratory technicians. While at the 78th Precinct, according to police sources, Williams became belligerent and allegedly fought with the arresting officer. He became so excited, sources said, that he had to be brought to Kings County Hospital. It was at the hospital, according to reports, that Williams said to Officer Thomas he would give him $100 for his freedom. Instead of taking the money, the officer reported Williams to his superiors and, he was charged with bribery. Charles Rogers
