Sanit Dept.'s Spring Cleaning Effort

Sanitation Commissioner J ohn J. Doherty announced this week that the Department of Sanitation will sponsor a series of "Spring Cleaning" events where residents can get free, high-quality compost; recycle unwanted electronics items and donate gently used clothing and linens to local charitable organizations.

Doherty says the events will be held, rain or shine, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at composting facilities throughout the city.

The Brooklyn and Queens composting facility, which will host the "Spring Cleaning" events on Saturday and Sunday, May 12 and 13 and the following weekend, May 19 and 20, is located on the Brooklyn/Queens border on Flatlands Avenue near Fountain Avenue near the Belt Parkway.
