Veteran Public School 279 educator Cheryl Glick was recently honored by the New York Junior Tennis League (NYJTL) as Teacher of the Year for conducting their program of free tennis instruction to local children.

During her 18 years at P.S. 279, at 1070 East 104th Street, Glick has been a gifted, special education, and physical education teacher. It is in the latter capacity that she incorporates the tennis programs.

Glick was honored, along with three other public school teachers, at the NYJTL annual awards dinner held last week in Queens.

The NYJTL, in conjunction with the United States Tennis Association has been providing free after school and summer tennis instructional programs since 1983 to students at New York City public schools. The NYJTL provides free tennis instruction in more than 300 schools in cooperation with the city's Department of Education and annually recognizes each year those educator/tennis instructors who exemplify their mission. There are currently about 300 city teachers participating in the after-school free tennis instructional

program.
