Surveillance Photo Released Of Man Wanted In Ralph Ave. Slay
By Charles Rogers

Police have released a surveillance camera photo of a person they want to question regarding the murder of a Bergen Beach resident as he was waiting for a bus on Ralph Avenue and Avenue J on March 11.

Police from the 63rd Precinct said the victim, James Plocica, 37, an MTA security guard and the father of two, was attacked and gunned down at approximately 1 a.m. while on his way home from working the four-to-midnight shift in one of the East New York subway yards.

The TV surveillance video shows a hooded man following the victim into a 7-Eleven store in a shopping center adjacent to the bus stop. The man walked directly behind Plocica and then, seconds later, followed the victim out the door, turning right behind him.

Detectives said no more than two minutes later, customers who were in the convenience store and others near the site said they heard what sounded like gunshots and ran to see Plocica lying on the ground and the other man nowhere near.

There is a $22,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible. Anyone who recognizes the person in the photo or might have information on the case is asked to call the 63rd Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 258-4401 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
