No Threats, But Holiday Security Increased Near Houses Of Worship During the Jewish Passover holidays and Christian Holy Week, security measures in the local area are being stepped up, according to Captain Ralph Monteforte, commanding officer of the 69th Precinct. Although there are no specific extra manpower arrangements being used for synagogues and other churches, radio cars and foot patrols have been alerted to increase their frequency of patrols. Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly said Monday that there have been no specific threats, but the increased security is part of the city's responsibility to make sure all religious groups are protected. "We'll be keeping an eye on things," said Captain Monteforte. "There is such a diversity of religions in the area that we feel it is our duty to see that they're secure and will be able to conduct their services without fear," he said. Charles Rogers
