What's Your Opinion?
Compiled by Bill O'Neill

QUESTION: There have been reports lately that the scientific community is researching methods to prolong life and youth. Do you agree that it is more important than trying to develop cures for serious health problems that currently plague our society? WhY?

"I have multiple sclerosis. So I would say they should spend it on research for the cure of diseases. You have to cure what's out there so people can have a healthier, happy life. Research should be devoted to curing diseases, not prolonging life and youth." - Barbara Halpin, Bushwick
"It's more important to develop cures to fight against what we have now - because we know what we're up against. We know exactly where the money is going. To just do research on prolonging life can lead to anything - and be a waste of time and money." - Natasha Smillie, Canarsie
"I actually do believe that cures should be found for diseases such as AIDS and cancer. I'm walking for breast cancer in October. Finding cures will actually help people live longer. So you'll be prolonging life and youth by fighting diseases which plague society." - Leroy Wood, Canarsie
"I don't believe it's more important to prolong life and youth than it is to find cures for serious diseases. This is a very deep question. There are serious diseases which affect millions of Americans, millions of families. And that's why research should be done to help find cures." - Lawrence Somerville, Canarsie
