Holiday Food Giveaway

Over 1,800 families from Canarsie, Starrett City, and Mill Basin communities received generous food packages on Monday from the Jewish Community Council of Canarsie (JCCC) to enable them to better observe their respective festivals. Rabbi Avrohom Hecht, executive director of the JCCC, said, "We are committed in making a positive difference in the lives of our community's frail, destitute, poor, and near poor, by continuing to combat hunger and poverty. Together, we can make a difference." Generous donations were received through Met Council, UJA-Federation of New York, Mazon, America's Second Harvest, United Way, and the Food Bank for NYC. "Kudos to our local Temple Sholom of Mill Basin and the wonderful members of their Men's Club for organizing a drive amongst their membership to assist our Passover outreach, as well." Pictured (from left) are NYC Dept. of Youth and Community Development Deputy Commissioner Carlos Cortes, Karen Ginnis (Met Council), volunteer Tamara Slobodskaya, Rabbi Hecht, and JCCC staffer Yelena Kandkhorova.
