Ceiling Break Closes Canarsie Library

The Canarsie Library on Rockaway Parkway near Avenue J will be closed for at least three months because of emergency renovations, according to authorities. The emergency occurred last week when part of a ceiling in an inside office (above, second rear window on the side) collapsed and, because of the possible danger, officials thought it would be prudent to discontinue regular business until the ceiling is repaired. Brooklyn Public Library spokesperson Mary Graham, the interim director for public service, said, "We're not taking any chances. Our prompt closure of the building will ensure that a safe Canarsie Library reopens as quickly as possible." Until the library reopens, Bookmobile service will be provided on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Jamaica Bay Library on Seaview Avenue near Rockaway Parkway is open regular hours, as is the Paerdegat, Spring Creek, East Flatbush andMill Basin branches. Items can be renewed online at www.brooklynpubliclibrary.org, as well. Charles Rogers
