P.S. 115 Third Graders Put On Quite A Show

Students from four third grade classes at Public School 115 presented their culminating Center for Arts Education performance on February 13. The classes involved were: 301, Ms. S. Giordonello; 302, Ms. C. McKenzie; 307, Ms. D. Schneider, and 308, Ms. J. Menna. The students produced a show based on their third grade Social Studies Puerto Rico curriculum.

Class 308 performed a skit on the animals of the rainforest. Class 302 created an original folktale about saving the rainforest from environmental attacks. The story of the native Taino's, the African slaves and the Spanish conquerors were subjects for Class 308, while pupils in Class 301 danced the salsa.

The production was funded by a grant from the Center for Arts Education, which has allowed the East 92nd Street elementary school to develop a partnership with Brooklyn Arts Exchange to create a dance/theater program that integrates movement with the state's Social Studies curriculum.

Third graders perform numbers based on their classroom studies on Puerto Rico.
