Rally Backs Chinese Restaurant Over Mouse-In-Food TV Report A crowd of more than 100 rallied in Manhattan in front of the offices of WPIX-TV-CW11 Sunday protesting two reports given within the past two weeks regarding a woman who allegedly found a dead mouse - breaded - in her Chinese food takeout dinner ordered from a Canarsie restaurant. The TV station ran the first report on January 26 and a follow-up the following Tuesday showing a biologist, hired by the station, dissecting a breaded piece of food - part of an order of chicken and broccoli alleg-edly ordered from the New Food King Restaurant, 1460 Rockaway Parkway. In the report, the biologist, John Bonnett, declared, while examining the food, "There are claws here." He noted, while continuing the probe, "…there appear to be ribs...By all in-dications, this is a rodent of some kind." City Councilman John Liu, who led the rally, protested the coverage by the station, noting that it "perpetuates the ridiculous stereotype that does exist out there…that somehow mouse meat is fair game in a Chinese restaurant." He was quoted as saying there is "no evidence whatsoever" and that the station "is standing by their so-called report from this fly-by-night biologist." The woman who reported the mouse in her food said she is pre-sently trying to find a lawyer to handle her case. Meanwhile, a counterman at the restaurant vehemently stated that the "mouse" did not come from his restaurant, although CW11 said New Food King had been cited in the past by the City Health Department for allegedly having rodent droppings on the premises.
