Lone Bandit Robs Parkway Restaurant At Gunpoint
By Charles Rogers

A lone bandit escaped with more than $5,000 cash after holding up the Subway restaurant on Rock-away Parkway Sunday evening, police said.

According to officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad, the gunman entered the shop at 1376 Rockaway Parkway shortly after 9 p.m. on January 28. Although the manager and an assistant were on hand, there were no customers in the store at the time and the thief pulled a silver revolver from under his coat and announced a robbery.

He told the manager to go to the rear of the store and bring him money from the safe. After receiving about $5,000 in cash from the safe, the bandit took the manager's wallet with an undetermined amount of cash. He then fled in an unknown direction.

Police were called and precinct patrol officers responded within minutes and canvassed the area with negative results.

Detectives described the thief as black, about 25 to 29 years old, about five-feet, nine-inches tall and weighs approximately 200 lbs. He also has a short beard.

Anyone with information on the robbery is asked to call the local detective squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
