One Dead, Three Wounded In E. Flatbush Shootout

Four men were shot - one fatally - in a barrage of bullets last Sunday at about 6 a.m. as they exited a birthday party at a club on Glenwood Road and East 55th Street in East Flatbush, police said.

Detectives from the 63rd Precinct are searching for the shooter or shooters who killed a 28-year-old man just outside the Island Grill Café Sports Bar and Restaurant and sent three others to the hospital.

Police did not release the names of the wounded victims but one source said the deceased man, Roger Maxwell, was shot in the torso and was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Kings County Hospital. The other three men - a 29-year-old who was shot five times and a 41-year-old and a 30-year-old who were each shot once, were taken to Brookdale Hospital by Emergency Medical Service paramedics and were pronounced in stable condition. The two who were shot only once were treated and released and the third man was being held for further observation and treatment.

Neighborhood residents were quoted in a published report as saying the restaurant was "a problem" because of the noise late at night and that they plan to petition to have it closed.

The neighbors' names were not disclosed.

NYPD spokesperson Police Officer Madeline Belinda said the investigation is continuing.
