Damaged Utility Pole Leaves Remsen Ave. Residents In The Dark
The mishap split the pole in two and left downed electrical wires strewn across the southbound lane of the busy thoroughfare. Con Ed spokesperson Chris Olert told the Courier that the power for 26 customers went out shortly after 1 p.m. on Monday on the east side of Remsen Avenue, though he could not corroborate how the utility pole was damaged. He said local residents told Con Ed workers, who showed up shortly after the wires came down, and police about a truck they had seen back into the pole, but acknowledged that the specific details could not be confirmed. Olert said power was competely restored less than five hours later as crews worked diligently ( see photos below ) to replace electrical wires and erect a new utility pole.
The woman, who has lived in the same house on Remsen Avenue for 30 years, commended Con Ed workers, who she said went door-to-door to apologize for the brief blackout inconvenience, adding, "They couldn't have been more helpful." Con Ed workers were still in the area Tuesday afternoon apparently assuring the utility pole and wires were properly placed.
