Brooklyn Museum's First Saturdays Has Diverse Offerings
At 5 p.m., members of Urban Word NYC present a teens' perspective on love and art through original poems inspired by works in the Museum's collections. At 6 p.m., stylish jazz ensemble Lapis Luna performs romantic bossa nova music in the Hall of the Americas. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5 p.m. From 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., participants are invited to transform a Museum masterpiece into "pixels" using buttons and pompoms. Free timed tic-kets are available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m. At 6:30 p.m., see the film Mississippi Masala (Mira Nair, 1991, 118 min., rated R), a love story set in the rural American south starring Academy Award winner Denzel Washington. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 5:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., join artist Devorah Sperber as she explores the link between art, technology, and perception in the new special exhibition The Eye of the Artist: The Work of Devorah Sperber. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 6 p.m.
At 8:30 p.m., don't miss a screening of In the Mood for Love (Wong Kar-Wai, 2000, 98 min.), a visually stunning film, starring Maggie Cheung and Tony Leung, about a secret friendship that develops into genuine passion. Free tickets available at the Visitor Center at 7:30 p.m. And from 9 to 11 p.m., tango the night away in the Beaux-Arts Court to the sizzling sound of Argentine tango by the Tito Castro Quartet. Stepping Out Studios offers free tango lessons one hour before the dance part .
