Dumb Truck Slices Telephone Pole, But No One Hurt

For some reason...nobody seems to know why...the driver of the above dump(b) truck raised the empty rear end of his vehicle just as he was making a turn from Avenue D onto the northern end of Rockaway Parkway at about 2 p.m. last Friday. The truck sheared off the top of the telephone pole and tangled wires like so much spaghetti. No one was injured, according to 69th Precinct police, and it took telephone company workers a couple of hours to untangle the wires, replace one utility pole and upright the pole (in the distance in the right photo). A minor traffic backup ensued, but it was all cleared within an hour. Charles Rogers
