Question: do you agree
that city teachers in some schools will be eligible for merit pay if their
schools improve academically. Why?
|"No, the teachers should do their jobs without an additional incentive. They get enough benefits and days off. They get the whole summer off. They don't need any more incentives."
- Paul Canno, Canarsie
|"It's their job to teach kids. But if they are getting more money, that'll give them more incentive to try even harder. So, merit pay is a new thing - and a good thing."
- John Grandi, East Flatbush
|"Yeah, I think they should get merit pay. If they are doing a good job, they should get paid for it. They are training people that will eventualy run this country. Some jobs offer commissions as an incentive. Why should their job be any different?"
- Jamal Hollway, Queens
|"The teachers should get merit pay because the children will learn more. Obviously, the teachers will be more motivated. And it's because the teachers are motivated."
- Cathy Sample, Canarsie
