Brooklyn Knights Edge Division- Leading Cape Cod Crusaders, 3-2

The Knights took one step closer to claiming the top spot in their division, beating the previously undefeated Cape Cod Crusaders 3-2 at Aviator Field Saturday night.

Grenada-born Ricky Charles and Jamaican islander Terik Smith thrilled Brooklyn fans at Saturday's Caribbean Night by connecting for the first goal. Smith dribbled through three defenders then passed to Charles, who drilled the back of the net from a yard out in the 49th minute.

Cape Cod's Haitian-born Dwight Barnett evened the score in the 57th minute, however. But Brooklyn took the lead again when Smith's cross-goal pass found Diego Velasquez, who scored in the 70th minute.

Cape Cod's Ben Theimer slipped an equalizing goal by keeper Steven Diaz in the 77th minute. Then Danny Dragoi, fielding a pass from Jeff Matteo, gave Brooklyn their winning goal in the 80th minute.

The win puts the Knights three points away from knocking Cape Cod out of the lead in the United Soccer League's PDL North East Division.

Brooklyn faces the Long Island Rough Riders on the road tomorrow, then plays Rhode Island at home at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
