Officials from the 69th Precinct Detective Squad are checking with neighboring precincts and investigating other venues to see if a mugger who pummeled and robbed a deliveryman from a local Chinese restaurant had followed a pattern and committed other crimes in the local area.

Police sources here said there had been a similar robbery within the past two weeks.

The latest incident took place in broad daylight on Sunday, May 20 at about 3 p.m. in the lobby of 5905 Shore Parkway in the BayView Houses complex, police said.

The order was phoned to the restaurant at about 2:30 p.m. and was "nothing special," according to police. About a half hour later, when the lone deliveryman brought the order to the door of the apartment building, he didn't have to ring the apartment for the main door to be opened because a man opened it for him.

The moment the deliveryman stepped inside the lobby, the man who opened the door grabbed him and pulled him into a back stairwell where two other men were hiding. The three men then proceeded to threaten the deliveryman and took $50 and the order of food he was delivering. They then fled in an unknown direction out the back door.

Detectives did not specify whether the mugging was part of a pattern, but they continue to caution people delivering food or other items to be extremely cautious, even in the middle of the day.

Anyone with information on Sunday's attack is asked to call the 69th Precinct Detective Squad at (718) 257-6215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. All calls will be kept confidential.
